The Requirements

We're looking for a smart engineer who is interested in doing UI development, learning new technologies and processes, and who has a track record of delivering clean, maintainable code on a consistent basis. To meet the basic qualifications for this role you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree
  • At least three years of JavaScript development experience
To be a good fit for this opportunity you also will have:
  • Proven technical design expertise taking functional specifications and transforming to long-lived technical design
  • A demonstrated ability to deliver a coherent product on time and beyond expectations
  • Strong experience in developing robust, high-volume, commercial enterprise applications
  • Expertise using relational databases, SQL, and JDBC
  • Working experience in REST and web services
Just as important as your experience and skills will be the following characteristics and competencies:
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to contribute effectively to teams
  • A passion for user experience design and improving usability.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to define, own and drive projects and tasks to completion
  • Experience developing RESTful web services is preferred but not required

The Role

You will join a Development team of six, led by the Manager; we are a product development team and our key deliverable is the UI framework, which is used by other IT teams. We use the agile method, including daily scrums, and you will work closely with others team members.

You'll tap into your REST service development skills in core Java and do some backend development, although you'll focus on designing and developing leading-edge web UI, for both desktop and mobile, using the latest technologies and patterns, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery Mobile, Sencha ExtJS, and REST. You also will be exposed to multi-tier enterprise architecture.

You will invest the larger portion of your time in new development, although there is also maintenance to be done. To give you an example, the most recent release of the framework involved a complete re-write. That means there are still plenty of new development projects and tasks in the queue, along with ongoing maintenance and fine-tuning.

Pictured: you will help develop software that quickly turns customers' advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data into actionable information that can be leveraged across the utility. Use cases include Revenue Protection, AMI Health, Event Analysis, Load Monitoring and Outage Analysis.
